Eligibility and Criteria
The Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program is active November through January each school year. The information contained on this page is NOT to be considered current at any other time.

Conditions for the Award
Students named as Lilly Endowment Community Scholars must:
- Graduate from high school by the end of June 2010.
- Apply for admission to a full-time baccalaureate degree program at any Indiana public or private college or university accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
- Select the college or university they will attend and notify their Community Foundation of selection no later than May 1, 2010.
- Hold freshman status upon entering their chosen college or university.
- Apprise the Community Foundation annually of their academic status while pursuing their baccalaureate degree and of their postgraduate status (education and employment) for at least ten years after graduation.
- Account for and return to ICI any amount of the allocation for required books and equipment remaining at the end of each school year.
- Decline any scholarships awarded through the Foundation's Community Scholarship Program upon notification of award of the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship.
Eligibility Requirements
- Be a resident of Indiana and be a resident of or attend high school in Posey County.
- Be a graduate of an accredited Posey County or Indiana high school or academy by June 2010 and begin as a full-time college student in the fall of 2010.
- Demonstrate high academic achievement in completed course work with at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale). Have either a minimum SAT score of 1700 or a minimum ACT score of 25.
- Have completed the college prep curriculum in high school upon graduation.
- Demonstrate commitment to school activities, community service, and/or employment.
- Be available for an interview with the scholarship committee if selected as a finalist.
- Apply for the scholarship in only one county.
Selection Criteria:
Academic performance
Weight: 25%
Measurement: Demonstrate high academic achievement in completed course work with at least a 3.5 grade point average. Has completed the college prep curriculum in high school. SAT score of a minimum 1700 or ACT score of a minimum 25.
Community service and volunteer activities
Weight: 20%
Measurement: Considered are intensity and longevity of service; number of and variety of organizations; truly voluntary services; link to career and personal goals; leadership roles.
Essay
Weight: 10%
Measurement: Student clearly states how he/she will use the scholarship opportunity to make a positive difference; consider originality of content, effort, composition, critical thinking, spelling, grammar and general use of language.
Personal statement/Unusual circumstances
Weight: 10%
Measurement: Student states why he/she is deserving of scholarship; student facing unusual hardships; possible 1st generation college student.
Honors and awards
Weight: 10%
Measurement: Consider academic awards, leadership awards and other recognition from church, school, community and volunteer activities.
School activities
Weight: 10%
Measurement: Indicators that a student is well-rounded and gets along with others; activities related to personal goals; indicators that applicant can handle and prioritize mutiple demands; commitment to an area of interest; leadership roles in activities.
Interview
Weight: 10%
Measurement: Consider poise, honesty, articulation, language skills, eye contact, goals and aspirations, sincerity, and enthusiasm.
Work experience
Weight: 5%
Measurement: Indicates that a student has a consistent work history; works well with others; can do multiple tasks; work experience is challenging.
